PROFESSION OF FAITH FOR NEW BELIEVERS

 

At Remnant Church, our Profession of Faith is the verbal acknowledgment and a public declaration of one’s belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and their commitment to following Him. It is a profound expression of personal belief and commitment to the teachings of Christianity. It essentially signifies a believer's acceptance of the gospel message and their commitment to live according to the teachings of Christ.

It is open to both adults and children who have shown a clear understanding of who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for sinners to give them access to heaven. The professors of faith must also agree with who Jesus Christ says He is, believe in what He has done to remove our sins, believe in all His promises for Christians, and believe that He will judge the world in the future. Lastly, both adults and children who want to make a profession of faith must put their trust in Jesus Christ as the Lord or master of their lives. Evidence of their trust in Jesus must be shown by repenting of their sins, living according to His standards as written in the Bible, waging a radical war against their sins, and persistently obeying Him all the days of their lives.

Our Profession of Faith is a daily commitment to live out our faith in every aspect of our lives. This ongoing profession is reflected in one's actions, words, and interactions with others, serving as a witness to the transformative power of the gospel. It therefore encompasses both the initial declaration of belief and the continual expression of faith in action. It is a testament to the believer's relationship with Christ and their dedication to His teachings.

We require new believers – both adults and children to make a Profession of Faith before being baptized. We do not baptize infants.

Components of our Profession of Faith

New believers will be expected to:

1. Articulate the Gospel message

2. Have a basic understanding of the Apostle’s Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the 66 books of the Bible.

3. Have a basic understanding of key Heidelberg Catechism questions and answers: Q&A 1, 2, 21, 28, 60, 69, 75, 86, 116.

4. Have a basic understanding of the following key Bible verses: Psalm 119:105, John 3:16, Romans 3:23, 6:23 and 8:28-30, Ephesians 2:8-9, Philippians 4:6, 2 Timothy 3:16, and 1 John 1:8-9.

5. Have a basic understanding of the elements of the acrostic TULIP.
