Our Name

Trinity Remnant Church

Trinity Remnant Church, Pella, IA, was organized on September 7, 2025, when Rev Benjamin Anum-Higher and his family left Leighton Christian Reformed Church and, together with other believers, decided that there was a need for a confessionally reformed church to be planted in Pella. Trinity Remnant Church was chosen to reflect our mission in the City of Pella, the State of Iowa, and the world at large.

TRINITY

As part of our service, we sing the Gloria Patri and recite the Apostle's Creed to affirm our belief that there is only one God and this God exists in three Persons (Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14). The Persons of the Trinity, even though each of them is God, are distinguished from one another - the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit in their roles in the creation of the world and salvation of God's people.

REMNANT

A remnant is a piece of cloth or carpeting left when the greater part has been used, destroyed, or sold. The name Remnant was chosen to reflect the nature of the true church of God on earth. In Isaiah 10:20-23, God tells us through Isaiah that His chosen people in the world are only a small group of people and called them a remnant. Historically, they have always been despised in the world.

20 In that day, the Remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel. 21 A remnant will return; a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God. 22 Though your people be like the sand by the sea, Israel, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overwhelming and righteous. 23 The Lord, Almighty, will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land.

While the majority of the Israelites disobeyed their God at the time of Prophet Isaiah by forming alliances with the powerful but wicked nations surrounding them, a few people "will no longer rely on him who struck them down (godless nation of Assyria) but will truly rely on the Lord."

Like a remnant, the true church is the leftover part one throws away. Throughout human history, the true church of God has never been an impressive institution. The world, including false believers, has always despised the true church and cast her out as a nuisance through persecution.

God, however, is busy and actively working all things out in human history to preserve His remnant for His glory and the final Day of His judgment because they are the most and only secured people in the world. The true church will stand at the grave of every other institution in human history.

Isaiah then tells us that two marks will be evident in the lives of the remnant: a true heart repentance and a true saving faith.

CHURCH

Like the true church, we believe that Jesus Christ has gathered us to Himself by His Spirit and the Word to offer God true worship and bring the gospel to sinners; we therefore exist for worship and mission. For this reason, we prioritize preaching the Word, observing a weekly communion, and enforcing church discipline.

Our Mission

Worship and Mission

The church exists for two reasons: to offer God our true worship and be involved in mission for sinners. Every true church must not separate the dual call to glorify God (worship) and to spread the Gospel (mission). This concept is deeply rooted in Scripture, where worship and mission are not separate entities but interconnected aspects of the believer's life and the church's purpose on earth. Through Scripture, we encourage our members to give glory to God by living lives according to Scripture and by being missionaries and sharing the Gospel with their co-workers, classmates, families, friends, and everyone.

We must not only be prepared to give to everyone an answer for the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15), but we must be zealous to see that our non-Christian friends, families and neighbors hear the message of Christ crucified (Romans 10:14-15) with the prayerful and confident expectation that God will be pleased to call many to faith in His Dear Son through the ministry of the Trinity Remnant Church.

Our Focus

Word and Sacrament

The focus of our worship is the public reading and preaching of God's Word, and the administration of His sacraments.

  • 1 Timothy 4:13 Devote yourself to the public reading of scripture, to preaching, and to teaching.

  • Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

  • 1 Corinthians 10:16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ?  And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?

  • Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…

Our Special Priority

Devotion to God's Will & Zealousness for His Glory

Several churches have closed down in recent years, partly due to Christians and church leaders who were not devoted to doing the will of God and were not zealous for the glory of God. At Remnant Church, our methods and motives in Christian service and daily living are based on the principle that God is jealous of His glory, and we must refrain from anything that robs Him of His glory. (Isaiah 42:8).

One way to put our priority in practice is to raise true godly children, grandchildren, and great great grandchildren who will continue to be devoted to the Lord and be zealous for His glory in their generation. For this reason, we will endeavor not only to teach the Scripture and pray for our next and unborn generation, but we will live in such a way that we will be known as the people who did anything for God, went anywhere for God, and worked anytime for God.

We will prioritize not taking short-term decisions in our Christian service that will only affect us, but all our actions will be planned to have long-term godly consequences on the next generation. By so doing, and with the grace of God, our next generation will not collapse when faced with temptations and challenges that God's people face on the earth. We will desire to live in such a way that it would not be said of us that "The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge" (Jeremiah 31:29, Ezekiel 18:2). In other words, we do not want God to judge the next generation because of our sins. Rather, we want to be known for our exclusive attachment to the Person of God, our exclusive devotion to the Purpose of God, and our exclusive obedience to the Will of God, and to pass the same exclusivity to the next generations.

Our Commitment to World Mission

On-Campus and Online Theological Education

As soon as the Lord provides the needed resources, we plan to start two Regional or International Seminaries in Ghana and the Philippines to offer free theological education for all African and Asian students.

The Ghana and the Philippines seminaries will train Christians in the Bible to proclaim the whole counsel of God for Christ and His global church, mainly in Africa and Asia, where there are few or no confessionally reformed churches.

Our Desire

Unity and Accountability

5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:5-6).

Paul understood the importance of unity among Christians, so he prayed for unity among the believers in Rome. Trinity Remnant Church believes that for God's people to be useful to Him in their worship and mission on earth, they must have a right relationship with Him and each other. Therefore, we desire to encourage unity among ourselves and with every true believer and simultaneously flee from people and organizations that teach a different gospel (unbiblical).

We believe that unity among Christians is an essential element in God's purpose for His people and their usefulness on earth for the Lord. Below is our position on Christian unity:

  • Origin: In Romans 15:5, Paul tells us that unity is a creation of God and not by human effort. It is God who produces unity among believers and not through ecumenical organizations.

  • Nature: Christian unity is another word for sharing the same mind of Christ among believers. Unity is therefore spiritual and not through organizations.

  • Measure: The measure of Christian unity is the Lordship of Jesus Christ in the lives of the people who seek to unite. Trinity Remnant Church cannot have unity with any organization or individuals who do not bow to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every area of their lives. In Philippians 2:5, Paul admonished the believers in Philippi to bow to Christ, saying: "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:.."

  • Purpose: For His glory. God desires unity among believers to use every area of our lives and bodies for His glory, as Paul prayed in Romans 15:6, "so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Our liturgical worship and the use of creeds, confessions, and a catechism link us to other believers worldwide. We believe that the biblical pattern for ministry demands "checks and balances" and a structure of accountability higher than ourselves. Hence, we plan on establishing a relationship with a church, churches, and/or organizations for accountability.
